For my advertisement I chose the Dolce & Gabbana jewelry commercials that feature gay couples. The commercial focuses on one girl and one guy who rush around the city to meet up with each other—so it seems. However, at the end, you find out that the two are actually meeting their gay lovers. Generally, commercials like these tend to be scandalous or provocative—but involving a straight couple. But Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce decided to throw a small twist in at the end. The purpose of the commercial is to advertise their wrist jewelry: watches, bracelets, etc. And although it does focus on the jewelry, the gay couples at the end are actually quite distracting. Some people had seen the commercial quite a few times before they realized it was for Dolce & Gabbana jewelry; they just kept noticing the gay couples kissing at the end. This commercial is definitely not only one to advertise their jewelry but to help raise awareness and acceptance of gays as well.
My overall impression of the commercial is actually that it was an effective advertisement. I wouldn't choose that lifestyle for myself, or necessarily agree with it, but I was able to look past that during the commercial and see what they were trying to accomplish. With all the city lights in the background, the music, and the intensity of the commercial, it left me wanting to go buy the D & G jewelry featured.
